OBJECTIVE

The objective of the CAD Essentials – Interior Designing Workshop was to provide students with practical knowledge of CAD tools used in interior designing. The workshop aimed to help students understand 2D and 3D design concepts, improve drawing reading skills, and enhance their technical abilities for better career opportunities in the interior design field.

REPORT IN BRIEF

The CAD Essentials – Interior Designing Workshop was conducted at the Skill Book Skill Development Centre from 03 December 2025 for a duration of three days, with active participation from 31 students of ITI Pusa (Interior Designing & Decoration trade). The workshop was designed to provide complete hands-on practical training, allowing students to work directly on industry-relevant design tasks.

On Day 1, students were introduced to AutoCAD software in detail. They learned how to set up drawings, use basic commands such as line, offset, trim, and dimension, and understand proper drawing scales. Students designed 2D building plans, including room layouts and basic structural elements. Special focus was given to reading and understanding technical drawings, helping students interpret plans correctly, which is a core skill for interior designers.

On Day 2, students worked on SketchUp, a 3D designing software widely used in interior design. They learned how to create 3D models, apply basic shapes, and understand depth, height, and proportions. Students designed a 3D TV panel, where they practiced modeling, grouping objects, and visualizing interior elements in three dimensions. This session helped students understand how 2D drawings are converted into realistic 3D views.

On Day 3, students combined their knowledge of AutoCAD and SketchUp to create a front elevation (front view of a building). They used AutoCAD for accurate planning and SketchUp for 3D visualization, applying both 2D and 3D concepts together. Students learned how elevations are important for presenting design ideas clearly to clients.

The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Vinay (Mechanical Engineer) and Mr. Dilshad (Civil Designer), who provided step-by-step guidance, solved student doubts, and shared practical industry tips. Throughout the workshop, students actively participated, asked questions, and showed great interest. The hands-on approach helped students improve their technical skills, confidence, and understanding of real-world interior design workflows.
