Mr. Vinay is committed to mentoring learners, strengthening their technical competencies, and preparing them for successful careers in the mechanical engineering field.
Mr. Dilshad is an experienced Civil Designer working in the industry, with strong practical exposure to real-world projects. His hands-on involvement at both site and office levels has given him a solid understanding of civil design practices and project execution.
He is known for explaining concepts in a clear and simple manner, creating a comfortable learning environment where students feel confident to ask questions. Mr. Dilshad is dedicated to mentoring learners, sharing his industry experience, and helping them develop the essential skills required for a successful career in civil design.
The objective of the CAD Essentials – Draughtsman Civil Workshop was to provide students with practical knowledge of CAD tools commonly used in the civil engineering and drafting field. The workshop aimed to help students understand 2D and 3D civil drawing concepts, improve drawing reading and interpretation skills, and strengthen their technical abilities for better job opportunities in the construction and civil design industry.
The CAD Essentials – Draughtsman Civil Workshop was conducted at the Skill Book Skill Development Centre from 03 December 2025 for a duration of three days, with active participation from students of ITI Pusa (DMC – Draughtsman Civil trade). The workshop was planned to provide complete hands-on practical training, enabling students to work on civil drafting tasks commonly used in the construction and infrastructure industry.
On Day 1, students were introduced to AutoCAD in detail for civil drafting. They learned drawing setup, proper scaling, and the use of basic and essential commands such as line, offset, trim, extend, hatch, and dimension. Students prepared 2D building plans, including wall layouts, room planning, door and window placement, and basic structural elements. Special emphasis was given to reading and understanding civil drawings, helping students accurately interpret plans, which is a core skill for draughtsman civil professionals.
On Day 2, students focused on 3D modeling using SketchUp, which is widely used for civil visualization and presentation. They learned how to convert 2D plans into 3D building models, understand levels, heights, and structural proportions, and apply basic materials. Students created simple 3D building structures, helping them visualize how civil drawings look in real form. This session strengthened their understanding of how planning drawings are transformed into 3D models for client presentations and site coordination.
On Day 3, students combined AutoCAD and SketchUp to prepare front elevations (front views of buildings). AutoCAD was used for accurate 2D drafting, while SketchUp was used to create 3D elevation views. Students learned the importance of elevations in civil projects for approvals, client understanding, and execution at the site. This integrated approach helped students connect technical drafting with visual presentation.
The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Vinay (Mechanical Engineer) and Mr. Dilshad (Civil Designer), who provided step-by-step instructions, cleared student doubts, and shared practical industry-based knowledge. Throughout the workshop, students actively participated, asked relevant questions, and showed strong interest in learning civil design tools. The hands-on training helped students improve their drafting accuracy, technical confidence, and understanding of real-world civil drafting workflows, supporting the vision of Skill Book – “Skill Hi Shiksha.”

Whether the speakers are good enough to explain
The CAD Essentials – Draughtsman Civil Workshop successfully achieved its objective of strengthening students’ practical knowledge of civil drafting and design. Through hands-on training in AutoCAD and SketchUp, students gained a clear understanding of building plans, elevations, and 3D visualization used in real civil projects. The workshop enhanced their technical skills, confidence, and readiness for industry requirements. Overall, the program proved to be highly beneficial for DMC students and strongly supported skill-based learning under the vision of Skill Book – “Skill Hi Shiksha.”
Students recommended more practical and software-based workshops focused on civil drafting and design.
They suggested adding advanced AutoCAD sessions covering detailed building layouts, section views, and working drawings.
Participants expressed interest in learning real site-based drawings and live civil projects to better understand industry standards.
Students requested training on estimation, basic quantity take-off, and drawing interpretation to improve job readiness.
It was recommended to conduct regular Skill Book workshops under the motto “Skill Hi Shiksha” to help DMC students build strong technical skills and secure better career opportunities.
