OBJECTIVE

The objective of the CAD Essentials – Interior Designing Workshop was to provide students with practical knowledge of CAD tools used in interior designing. The workshop aimed to help students understand 2D and 3D design concepts, improve drawing reading skills, and enhance their technical abilities for better career opportunities in the interior design field.

REPORT IN BRIEF

The CAD Essentials – Interior Designing Workshop was conducted at the Skill Book Skill Development Centre on 03 December 2025, with active participation from 10 students of ITI Mangolpuri (Interior Design & Decoration trade). The workshop was designed to provide hands-on practical training, allowing students to work directly on industry-relevant design tasks and gain comprehensive exposure to both 2D and 3D interior design tools.

During the workshop, students were introduced to AutoCAD software and learned to set up drawings, use basic commands such as line, offset, trim, and dimension, and work with proper drawing scales. They practiced designing 2D building plans, including room layouts and basic structural elements, while focusing on reading and interpreting technical drawings accurately—a core skill for interior designers.

The workshop also covered 3D designing using SketchUp, where students learned to create 3D models, apply basic shapes, and understand depth, height, and proportions. They worked on designing a 3D TV panel, practicing modeling, grouping objects, and visualizing interior elements in three dimensions. Students then combined their knowledge of AutoCAD and SketchUp to create a front elevation, applying both 2D planning and 3D visualization techniques to present their design ideas effectively.

The session was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Dilshad (Civil Designer), who provided step-by-step instructions, solved student queries, and shared practical industry tips. Students actively participated throughout the workshop, asked questions, and demonstrated great enthusiasm. The hands-on approach helped students enhance their technical skills, confidence, and understanding of real-world interior design workflows.
